(NewsNation) – Kimberly McCormick, a 65-year-old American, traveled to Mexico for cosmetic surgery but was left with a “disfigured” body and $75,000 in medical bills.

“I called my daughter crying because I woke up with huge breasts,” she said.

McCormick, who had a positive experience at the same medical facility six years ago, had excess skin removed and a breast lift after a remarkable 150 pounds of weight loss.

But what was supposed to be a routine operation turned into a medical nightmare. Instead of the agreed-upon procedures, McCormick woke up to deal with unwanted breast implants and a Brazilian butt lift, a procedure known for high mortality rate in the field of cosmetic surgery.

McCormick’s story is an example of a spinoff of the medical tourism industry, in which individuals travel abroad to receive medical care.

Her daughter Misty Ann McCormick, who accompanied her on the trip, described the appalling conditions she found her mother in when she was finally allowed to see her.

“I was abused, beaten with machine guns, kicked in the ribs, kicked between my legs and physically thrown out of the hospital,” Misty Ann McCormick said. “I have a huge wound on the back of my head because I was hit with the butt of the machine gun.”

Kimberly McCormick revealed that she was later extorted for money and a hospital representative warned her to pay up or face imprisonment in a Mexican prison.

The McCormick family is currently struggling with mounting medical bills and is seeking financial support from a medical provider GoFundMe pageas the estimated cost to correct the botched surgery is at least $75,000.

The family’s grief continued even after their return to the United States, as San Diego police reportedly dismissed their claims and advised them to contact Tijuana police, the same people involved in the alleged assault.

“We were laughed at by the San Diego police who told me to call the Tijuana police,” Misty Ann McCormick said.
