A partly cloudy day with warm to hot temperatures has been forecast by the South African Weather Service, as alerts for thunderstorms and persistently high temperatures brought on by a heatwave remain in place.

Impact-based warning

A Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms with possible strong winds, large amounts of small hail and heavy downpours remains in place for some of the north-eastern parts of the Free State, Gauteng and Mpumalanga Highveld. Conditions are expected to lead to localised and short-term disruption to municipal and other essential services, with a possibility of trees being blown over.

Fire danger warning

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected in the Inxuba Yethemba, Raymond Mhlaba and northern Dr Beyers Naude municipalities of the Eastern Cape, as well as western parts of Free State, western and southern parts of North West, the extreme north-eastern parts of Western Cape and the Northern Cape, except the western parts.

Advisory

A heatwave with persistently high temperatures is expected over the western parts of North West, the western and central parts of the Free State, and the eastern parts of the Northern Cape until Saturday.
