The South African Weather Service has forecast a mid-week mishmash of weather for the country, with fine conditions over the western interior and partly cloudy and hot to very hot temperatures with isolated to scattered showers in the east.

Elsewhere along the south and south coast, cool to warm temperatures with light rain is expected.

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the Beaufort West local municipality in the Western Cape and Khai-ma local municipality in the Northern Cape.

Advisory

A heatwave with persistently high temperatures is expected over the Free State, the eastern parts of the Northern Cape, and the southern and western parts of the North West until Thursday but persisting over the entire North West from Wednesday until Saturday.

Fine and hot but very hot temperatures are expected in the extreme north of Gauteng, becoming partly cloudy with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers.

The expected UVB sunburn index is moderate.

Mpumalanga will be cloudy with morning fog patches in the east.

Otherwise, partly cloudy and warm to hot conditions are forecast with isolated showers and thundershowers over the Highveld.

Limpopo is forecast to be cloudy in the morning.

Otherwise, it will be partly cloudy with warm to hot temperatures and isolated showers and thundershowers over the central parts in the morning.

Partly cloudy and hot to very hot conditions are expected in the North West with isolated showers and thundershowers.

Morning fog patches are expected in the east of the Free State.

Otherwise, partly cloudy and hot to very hot temperatures with isolated showers and thundershowers are forecast, except in the west.

The Northern Cape can expect cloudy conditions with morning fog along the coast.

Otherwise, fine and very hot but extremely hot temperatures in the north-east are forecast, where it will become partly cloudy by the afternoon.

The wind along the coast will be light and variable becoming a moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly from the afternoon.

The Western Cape is expected to be fine and hot over the north-eastern interior.

Otherwise, cloudy to partly cloudy and warm conditions are forecast with light rain in the south-west in the early morning spreading along the south coast towards the afternoon.

The wind along the coast will be a moderate to fresh westerly to south-westerly becoming moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly from late morning, but strong along the west and south-west coast in the afternoon.

The expected UVB sunburn index is extreme.

Fine and warm to hot temperatures are expected in the western half of the Eastern Cape.

Cloudy conditions and cool temperatures with light isolated showers and rain in places along the coast and adjacent interior from the afternoon is also expected.

The wind along the coast will be a moderate to fresh south-westerly, reaching strong in places.

Warm conditions with morning fog in places along the coast and adjacent interior is forecast for the eastern half of the province.

Otherwise, fine and hot to very hot temperatures are expected. It will become cloudy with isolated showers and thundershowers from the afternoon.

The wind along the coast will be a light to moderate north-easterly early morning, otherwise a fresh to strong south-westerly is forecast.

Morning fog in places over the interior is expected for KwaZulu-Natal.

Otherwise, partly cloudy and warm to hot conditions are forecast.

Scattered showers and thundershowers are expected in the south-west, otherwise isolated, except in the north-east.

The wind along the coast will be a moderate to fresh easterly to north-easterly.
