(NewsNation) – The US State Department has begun chartered helicopter flights to transport American citizens Haiti amid increasing violence in the Caribbean country.

The State Department is now looking for ways to get captured Americans out of the country.

“There are areas in Haiti that the U.S. government cannot reach because it cannot provide transportation between the capital and the other, more remote cities and other places,” said Hagar Chemali, a former spokeswoman for the U.S. mission in Haiti Nations. “It’s just too dangerous.”

More than 30 American citizens were taken to Miami International Airport on a U.S. government-chartered flight from Cap-Haitien, Haiti, on Sunday evening after the U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince advised U.S. citizens to visit the Caribbean nation as quickly as possible left, said a deputy of the Foreign Ministry spokesman Vedant Patel said in a press conference Monday.
