It will be warm and hot to very hot in several provinces with partly cloudy conditions expected in other parts of SA.

The South African Weather Service has warned of thunderstorms in parts of KwaZulu-Natal, with an alert for a heatwave remaining in place in four provinces.

Impact-based warning

A Yellow Level 2 warning has been issued for severe thunderstorms in places along the western and central parts of KwaZulu-Natal, with possible strong damaging winds and large hail that could lead to localised damage to infrastructure, settlements, vehicles, livelihood and livestock, as well as injuries due to flying debris, fires due to excessive lightning and localised flooding of susceptible roads.

Fire danger warning

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over parts of Limpopo (excluding the Mopani District), western parts of the North West, northern parts of the Free State and southern Highveld of Mpumalanga.

Advisory

Heatwave conditions resulting in persistently high temperatures, exceeding the average maximum, are expected over the eastern parts of the North West and Gauteng, Limpopo Valley and western Bushveld, and spreading to the central and northern parts of the Free State.

Gauteng will be partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated evening showers and thunderstorms.

The expected UVB sunburn index is extreme. 

Mpumalanga can expect fine and warm to hot conditions, becoming partly cloudy with isolated showers and thundershowers in the afternoon, except on the Lowveld.

Partly cloudy and hot to very hot conditions are expected in Limpopo.

It will be extremely hot in the western Bushveld.

It will be partly cloudy, windy and hot to very hot in the North West, with isolated showers and thundershowers over the southern and eastern parts.

Morning fog patches are expected over the extreme eastern parts of the Free State, otherwise it will be partly cloudy, windy, and warm to hot with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers except over the south-west.

Fine and cool to warm conditions are expected in the western parts of the Northern Cape, otherwise it will be partly cloudy, windy, and hot to very hot.

The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly, becoming strong in the evening.

It will be partly cloudy and cool to warm in the Western Cape, otherwise cloudy conditions are forecast along the south coast with intermittent chances of light rain.

The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly, but strong along the west coast in the afternoon.

The expected UVB sunburn index is extreme.

Partly cloudy and cool conditions are expected in the western half of the Eastern Cape, with isolated showers of rain along the coast and adjacent interior where it will be cloudy.

The wind along the coast will be light and variable, becoming moderate south-easterly.

It will be cloudy and cool with isolated showers and rain but scattered south of the escarpment in the eastern half of the province.  

The wind along the coast will be moderate south-westerly, becoming south-easterly in the afternoon.

KwaZulu-Natal can expect morning fog over the interior, otherwise it will be cloudy and cool, but warm in the west and extreme north-east with scattered showers and thundershowers.

The wind along the coast will be moderate southerly to south-westerly.

The expected UVB sunburn index is very high.
