Thursday’s weather: Partly cloudy day with morning fog as warm, hot conditions persist in parts of SA | News24



It will be partly cloudy in several provinces, with warm to hot conditions expected.

The South African Weather Service has forecast a partly cloudy day with morning fog patches across parts of the country with alerts for fire danger in the Northern Cape and Western Cape, where extremely uncomfortable conditions are expected. 

Impact-based warning

A Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms with possible strong damaging winds, hail and heavy downpours remains in place over parts of the Free State, western parts of KwaZulu-Natal, southern parts of Gauteng and Mpumalanga as well as the northern parts of the Eastern Cape.

This could result in localised damage to infrastructure, settlements (informal), property, vehicles, livelihood, and livestock. 

Fire danger warning

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected in the northern and central parts of the Northern Cape, as well as the central parts of the Western Cape.

Advisory

Extremely uncomfortable conditions are expected in places over the Central and Little Karoo in the Western Cape.

Gauteng will be partly cloudy and warm, with isolated showers and thundershowers which will be scattered in the south where it will be cool.

The expected UVB sunburn index is high.

Cloudy and cool to warm conditions are expected in parts of Mpumalanga, but it will be hot on the Lowveld.

Scattered showers and thundershowers are expected.

Morning fog and drizzle are expected along the escarpment in Limpopo, otherwise it will be cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers, except in the extreme north-western parts of the province.

It will be partly cloudy and hot to very hot with isolated showers and thundershowers in the North West, except in the extreme western parts of the province.

The Free State will be partly cloudy and warm to hot but cool in places in the east.

Scattered to widespread showers and thundershowers are expected but isolated in the extreme west.

Morning fog patches forecast along the coast in the Northern Cape, otherwise it will be fine, windy, and hot to very hot but partly cloudy with isolated showers and thundershowers in the extreme east.

The wind along the coast will be light to moderate south-westerly.

Morning fog patches are expected along the south coast and adjacent interior of the Western Cape, otherwise it will be fine and warm to hot but very hot over the Karoo.

It will be partly cloudy along the west coast and north-eastern parts.

The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong east to south-westerly.

The expected UVB sunburn index is extreme.

Partly cloudy and hot to very hot conditions are expected in the western half of the Eastern Cape, with isolated showers and thundershowers in places in the north and east, but warm along the coast.

The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly, but strong east of Algoa Bay in the afternoon.

It will be cloudy and warm to hot in the eastern half of the province, with scattered showers and thundershowers, which will be isolated along the coast and adjacent interior.

The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong north-easterly.

KwaZulu-Natal can expect morning fog patches in places over the interior, otherwise it will be cloudy to partly cloudy and cool to warm.

Scattered showers and thundershowers are expected.

The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly.

The expected UVB sunburn index is low.
