Thursday’s weather: High fire warning as scorching conditions continue in some parts of SA | News24



Extremely hot conditions that may cause fires are expected in at least two provinces.

The South African Weather Service has warned of high fire conditions for two provinces as extremely hot temperatures continue in the Northern Cape, Western Cape and some parts of the Eastern Cape.

Fire danger warnings

Extremely high fire conditions are expected in places over the Northern Cape, except in the north-west and north-east, as well as the West Coast district and in places over the Cape Winelands and Central Karoo in the Western Cape.

Advisories

Extremely hot conditions are expected in Kamiesberg local municipality in the Northern Cape, Dr Beyers Naude local municipality in the Eastern Cape, and some parts of Cape Winelands, Central and Little Karoo in the Western Cape.

A heatwave with persistently high temperatures is expected over the western parts of Chris Hani District Municipality, Dr Beyers Naude, Blue Crane Route and Raymond Mhlaba local municipalities in the Eastern Cape.

The weather in your region

Gauteng will be partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers.

The expected UVB sunburn index is extreme.

Partly cloudy and hot with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers are expected in the North West except in the southern parts.

Mpumalanga will be cloudy at first with morning drizzle and fog patches along the escarpment.

The rest of the day will be partly cloudy and warm with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers, except in the lowveld.

Free State will be cloudy in the extreme east with morning fog, but it will be partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers in the afternoon.

The morning will be cloudy with drizzle and fog patches along the escarpment in Limpopo but partly cloudy and warm with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers over the central and south-western parts.

Northern Cape can expect cloudy conditions with morning fog along the coast where it will be warm.

The north-east will be partly cloudy and hot to very hot with showers and thundershowers. 

It will be extremely hot over the Kamiesberg local municipality.

The wind along the coast will be light to moderate southerly to south-westerly.

The Western Cape will be cloudy along the south coast in the morning but fine and hot to very hot conditions are expected for the rest of the day.

It will be extremely hot over Central and Little Karoo.

The wind along the coast will be light to moderate southerly to south-westerly along the west coast, otherwise, moderate to fresh easterly to south-easterly.

The expected UVB sunburn index is extreme.

The western half of the Eastern Cape will be cloudy with fog in the south-eastern interior at first, otherwise, it will be fine and warm but hot to very hot over the interior.

Wind along the coast will be fresh to strong-easterly.

The province’s eastern half is expected to be cloudy with fog south of the escarpment in the morning but partly cloudy and warm-to-hot for the rest of the day.

Isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers are expected in the extreme north-east.

Moderate to fresh north-easterly winds are expected along the coast.

KwaZulu-Natal will see morning fog in places over the interior, but partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers in the west.

The wind along the coast will be moderate easterly to south-easterly north of Durban and moderate to fresh north-easterly spreading to Richards Bay by evening.
