Cloudy and cool temperatures with widespread to scattered thundershowers and rain are expected in most parts of the country.

The South African Weather Service has warned of disruptive rain leading to localised flooding and severe thunderstorms in some parts of the country, with cloudy and cool temperatures and widespread to scattered thundershowers and rain. 

Impact-based warnings

A Yellow Level 4 warning has been issued for disruptive rain leading to flooding of roads and settlements (formal and informal), as well as damage to property and infrastructure and loss of livelihood and livestock in the Northern Cape.

A Yellow Level 2 warning has been issued for severe thunderstorms leading to flooding of susceptible settlements, roads and low-lying areas, with isolated structural damage expected over the Central Karoo in the Western Cape, as well as the extreme south-eastern parts of the Northern Cape.

Wind leading to difficulty in navigation at sea is also expected between Table Bay and Cape Agulhas.

A Yellow Level 3 warning for disruptive rain leading to flooding of roads, low-lying bridges and formal/informal settlements is expected in the Overberg, southern Cape Winelands and coastal areas of the Garden Route of the Western Cape on Saturday and Sunday.

Advisories

A well defined weather system (cut-off low-pressure) is expected to affect the Western Cape and Namakwa District of the Northern Cape until 31 December. The public and small stock farmers are advised that scattered to widespread showers and thundershowers, large amounts of small hail, and heavy rainfall which may result in flooding can be expected.

Gauteng will be cloudy in the morning, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers in the afternoon.

Morning fog patches along the escarpment are expected in Mpumalanga, with otherwise cloudy and cool but warm temperatures in parts of the extreme north-east. Isolated showers and thundershowers can be expected from the afternoon.

Limpopo is forecast to be warm in parts of the extreme north and west, otherwise cloudy and cool conditions with isolated thundershowers are excepted in the extreme north-west.

Partly cloudy and warm conditions are expected in the North West, with scattered showers and thundershowers, isolated in the east.

The Free State will experience morning fog patches over the extreme east, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm with scattered showers and thundershowers, but widespread over the south-western parts.

Morning fog along the coast is forecast for the Northern Cape, becoming fine and cool in the afternoon with otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot conditions, with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers, but widespread in the east.

The wind along the coast will be a light north-westerly becoming a south-westerly in the afternoon.

The Western Cape will be cloudy along the West Coast in the morning becoming fine and warm, otherwise fine conditions are expected. It will be partly cloudy with warm to hot temperatures and isolated showers and thundershowers over the eastern interior, but scattered in the extreme east.

The wind along the coast will be a fresh to strong easterly to south-easterly, but a light to moderate north-westerly along the west coast.

The expected UVB sunburn index is extreme.

Partly cloudy and warm conditions are forecast for the western half of the Eastern Cape, becoming cloudy with isolated showers and thundershowers over interior, but scattered in the north.

The wind along the coast will be a fresh to strong easterly.

The eastern half of the province will experience fog and light drizzle in places south of the escarpment in the morning, otherwise cloudy and cool conditions are expected with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated in the south.

The wind along the coast will be a fresh to strong north-easterly.

KwaZulu-Natal will experience morning fog over the interior, with otherwise cloudy and warm temperatures. It will be cool in the south-west with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the west.

The wind along the coast will be a moderate south-easterly north of Richards Bay, otherwise a moderate easterly to north-easterly.
