The South African Weather Service has warned of thunderstorms that come with damaging winds and hail across three provinces.

The South African Weather Service has warned of severe thunderstorms that will bring damaging winds and hail across three provinces as partly cloudy and warm weather as well as isolated showers and thundershowers are expected in large parts of the country.  

Impact-based warning

A Yellow Level 2 warning has been issued for severe thunderstorms with possible strong damaging winds and hail that could result in localised damage to properties over the south-western part of the North West, central and southern Free State, extending to the eastern half of the Eastern Cape.

Gauteng will be partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers.

The expected UVB sunburn index is extreme.

It will be cloudy in the morning in parts of Mpumalanga, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers in places on the Highveld.

Limpopo can expect cloudy conditions in the morning, otherwise it will be partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers.

Partly cloudy, windy, and warm to hot conditions are forecast for the North West, with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers.

It will be partly cloudy, windy, and warm in the Free State with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers, except in the far west where it will be hot.

The Northern Cape can expect fine, windy, and hot conditions.

It will be partly cloudy in the extreme eastern parts of the province where isolated showers and thundershowers are expected.

The wind along the coast will be a strong southerly.

It will be cloudy to partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated to scattered showers and rain along the south coast and adjacent interior of the Western Cape.

The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-westerly, becoming south-easterly along the west coast from the afternoon. 

Morning fog is expected in places over the interior of the western half of the Eastern Cape, otherwise it will be partly cloudy and cool, but warm in the north.

Isolated showers and rain are expected from mid-morning.

The wind along the coast will be light north-westerly early morning, otherwise fresh to strong south-westerly.

The eastern half of the province can expect morning fog in places south of the escarpment, otherwise it will be partly cloudy and warm, but windy north of the escarpment.

It will become cloudy with scattered showers and thundershowers from late morning.

The wind along the coast will be light to moderate north-easterly, becoming fresh to strong south-westerly from mid-morning.

KwaZulu-Natal will be fine and warm but hot in places in the east becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers.

The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly, becoming moderate to fresh south-westerly from the south towards the afternoon.

The expected UVB sunburn index is moderate.
