Sunday Brunch in Cape Town – at The Pot Luck Club – Prestige Digital

Are you wondering where to have brunch in Cape Town? On Sunday, 1 October 2023, The Pot Luck Club Cape Town relaunched its much-loved Sunday Brunch. Expect an exciting new multi-course menu, Bottomless Bubbles and the best Bloody Mary in town.

“We’re just so excited to bring the Sunday Brunch back to Cape Town,” enthuses Jason Kosmas, Executive Chef at The Pot Luck Club. “We’ve been working on the new menu all winter, and it’s really great to be able to welcome diners back to a Pot Luck dining experience that’s something a little different to what we usually offer.”

And the Sunday Brunch certainly offers an entirely new reason to ride the glass elevator to the roof. You can find a collection of entirely unique dishes exclusively served at the Sunday Brunch on the roof of The Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock.

What to Expect at The Pot Luck Club’s Sunday Brunch

“Sunday Brunch is always served as a set menu of nine or ten courses, and we’ve purposefully done this to be an entirely different Pot Luck experience,” says Kosmas. “We want Sunday mornings to be something to look forward to, and because it’s a set menu, you can let us do all the hard work in choosing what to eat!”

That means diners have to do little more than sit down, settle in and make the tough choice between bubbles or a Bloody Mary. Of course, the ever-popular ‘Bottomless Bubbly’ offering returns for the summer season. This time, the restaurant is pouring Boschendal’s Brut and Rosé Cap Classiques, elegant expressions that are the perfect foil to Kosmas’ cooking.

Is Vodka more your style?

The Pot Luck Club’s Bloody Mary station has become famous in the Mother City. With a well-guarded secret recipe as the tomato base, diners are encouraged to add their own twist. Alongside house-infused vodkas, you will find a collection of spices and flavourings on hand – think Worcestershire pearls and bacon crumble – for Pot Luck’s talented mixologists to create a memorable beginning.

Starting with Fresh Oysters

Of course, the Sunday Brunch menu begins with oysters, as all good brunches should. Freshly plucked and shucked from the West Coast, you can whet your palate with snack-sized flavour-packed bites. They are also topped with a dressing dreamt up by Kosmas that week. Prepare for a salty smack of saline happiness to start the morning.

Snacks

The serving of saline oysters is followed by a bit of buttery brioche, perhaps with a mushroom duxelle, followed by the fresh flavours of a Ssam-style dish. Look forward to crisp greens, cured fish and a hit of bright Asian spice. Kosmas’ nod to a more traditional breakfast, perhaps crumpets or blini given a Pot Luck shake-up, rounds off the snacks.

A Signature Omelette Makeover

The signature to the Sunday Bruch follows hot on the heels of the Snacks, a suitably “Pot Luck” makeover of a classic ‘Arnold Bennett’ open omelette redolent with smoked haddock.

The ‘Salad’ course offers a palate-breather, with Kosmas tapping into whatever’s fresh in the markets that week. In this way, guests can enjoy a variety of flavours and experiences throughout the Sunday Brunch.

“This dish is all about seasonality, and now, in spring and early summer, we’ve really got our eye on globe artichokes for beautiful salads,” adds Kosmas. “After that rich omelette, you want something to balance out the palate.”

Hearty Main Course at Sunday Brunch

Following the salad course, a heartier main course takes centre stage. Kosmas typically elevates duck to the star of this unique Sunday Brunch experience. Served family-style at the table, guests can enjoy an array of sides, ranging from beetroot tarte tatin to roast vegetables and an irresistible potato salad.

“It has that homely feel, with something a little special thrown in,” adds Kosmas. “By this stage, I want guests to feel that you’re at a lazy Sunday lunch. So you sit back and chill, you chat, you serve yourself, you go back for seconds. It’s relaxed.”

Dessert

Lastly, brunch ends with a pre-dessert of baked goodies from the pastry kitchen. You can look forward to Choux buns, canéles, and salted chocolate caramels. Afterwards, enjoy a light, often fruity dessert to cleanse the palate and draw a line after a decadent day.

“It’s a really unique way to discover and enjoy the food of The Pot Luck Club, and it’s proven hugely popular. Unlike our usual menu, we find this format works so well, and we put a lot of effort into creating new plates and tweaking old favourites,” says Kosmas. “We take our time to create each dish. Some happen quite organically; others take a lot of development work. But it’s always worth it in the end.”

Live Music and Atmosphere

Judging by the fully booked tables through the summer, savvy locals would agree. With a live jazz band providing the soundtrack, look forward to a happily boisterous gathering of foodies, friends and loyal Pot Luck fans at the best Sunday Brunch in town.
