(NewsNation) — Humanitarian groups are fight to get life-saving aid for hospitals in the Gaza Strip as civilians continue to die in attacks every day.

Palestinian-American intensive care physician Dr. Mohamad Abdelfattah appeared on “Morning in America” on Sunday to explain the extent of the crisis in detail.

“They are mostly children. The children there have severe blast injuries, their limbs have been amputated due to the serious injuries, their bodies are covered in shrapnel, they have severe burns on their upper bodies, backs, arms, their hair is burnt, you can’t even recognize their faces,” said Abdelfattah.

The emergency doctor, who recently returned to the United States from a mission in the Gaza Strip, says hospitals there are suffering severe shortages of even the most basic supplies.

“We had no bandages to dress the wounds and we ran out of saline, the IV solution to resuscitate the patients, and so it’s just chaos in the emergency room,” Abdelfattah said. “You do everything you can to stabilize a patient with very, very limited resources and there’s just a constant influx of patients.”

The United Nations’ highest court on Friday ordered Israel to immediately halt its military offensive in the southern Gaza city of Rafah, but did not order a ceasefire for the enclave. “They are suffering in every way possible from this conflict. There is no food, no water, no medicine, no education, they have not been to school for seven months,” Abdelfattah said of the Palestinians in Gaza. “They have no routine in their lives. They are just walking around the hospital trying to carry on with their lives. And at the same time there are bombs. Drones are flying everywhere non-stop.”

Criticism of Israel’s conduct in the Gaza war is growing, especially since the focus has turned to Rafah. This week alone, three European countries have announced they would recognize A Palestinian state and the chief prosecutor of another international court called for arrest warrants against Israeli politicians and Hamas officials.

Meanwhile, the US continues to supply weapons to Israel despite growing criticism of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Abdelfattah says President Joe Biden has the power to end this war with a single phone call.

“This is an American war. These are American weapons being dropped on these children. And our American president, President Biden, has the ability to stop this with a phone call. But unfortunately he will not do that,” Abdelfattah said.

“He continues to supply weapons to Israel. He continues to defend Israel against any international criticism,” he added. “This war is financed with our tax money.”
