Prepare for an unforgettable journey as the PONDO Trail Run returns for 2025, offering trail runners a unique opportunity to explore one of the world’s last untouched coastlines while contributing to the vital causes of conservation and community upliftment. Set amidst the stunning backdrop of the Wild Coast, this exclusive event will take place from 28th May to 1st June, inviting participants to traverse the remote and rugged northern section of this breathtaking region.
A spectacular adventure
Runners will embark on a three-day journey hosted by Wild Child Africa, where adventure and immersion in spectacular landscapes await them. Participants will gather for registration at the Wild Coast Sun, a luxurious venue that also serves as the drop-off point for donations to the Gift of Warmth initiative, a programme aimed at providing winter essentials to local communities through an ongoing partnership with the resort. This philanthropic effort ensures that, alongside the thrill of competition, runners can give back to the community, making a tangible difference in the lives of those who call Pondoland home.
Making an impact
At the core of the PONDO Trail Run lies a commitment to fundraising that resonates deeply with participants. In 2024, the event raised an impressive R435,000, directly benefiting two key partners: the Pondoland Conservation Trust, dedicated to uplifting the local community, and Cipla’s Miles for Smiles initiative, which funds transformative corrective surgeries for children with cleft conditions. The Wild Child Africa team had the honour of attending an Operation Smile surgical mission in Mthatha last year, witnessing firsthand the incredible impact these contributions make in the community. With the aspirations to raise even more in 2025, the PONDO Trail Run continues to extend its legacy of giving.
A unique perspective on luxury
“The PONDO Trail Run is more than just a race—it’s a rare opportunity to run through landscapes few ever get to see while leaving a lasting impact on the communities and ecosystems that make this place so special,” shares Matt Botha, Founder of Wild Child Africa. His passion for the event is evident, highlighting the remarkable generosity exhibited by runners, sponsors, and supporters alike. The excitement builds as they prepare to build on their success in 2025.
Returning sponsors, including Brooks, Devil’s Peak Beer, and Sealand Gear, will once again provide exceptional support, ensuring a world-class experience both on and off the trails. These renowned brands will spoil participants with top-of-the-line gear and refreshments, enhancing the luxurious journey that awaits.
