Newly appointed Moshoeshoe ‘Mosh’ Monare as group head of Corporate Affairs at Primedia

Primedia Limited announces the strategic appointment of Moshoeshoe Monare (‘Mosh’) as group head of Corporate Affairs, effective 1 March 2026. Bringing nearly three decades of distinguished leadership and industry expertise, Mosh strengthens the executive team of one of the continent’s most dynamic media groups.

Monare’s extensive leadership portfolio includes serving as group executive for News and Current Affairs at the SABC until December 2024, where he guided South Africa’s public broadcaster through significant transformation and industry evolution. His prior executive roles at Arena Holdings, combined with board appointments at Tiso Blackstar Pty Ltd, Media Development and Diversity Agency, and Publishers Support Services, illustrate his profound mastery of media operations, governance, and change leadership across multiple platforms.

Monare has helmed editorial leadership at South Africa’s most prestigious and impactful news publications – including the editorship of The Sunday Independent, and as deputy editor of Mail and Guardian, managing editor of the Sunday Times, executive editor of The Star, and group political editor for Independent Newspapers – solidifying his stature as an influential media strategist renowned for exceptional content development and stakeholder engagement.

Monare’s academic achievements complement his extensive leadership experience, reflecting a rare blend of legal acumen, journalistic expertise, and strategic management. He holds an LLM in Constitutional Law from the University of Pretoria and an LLB from Unisa, underpinning his deep legal insight into media and constitutional governance. He also earned a BA Honours in Journalism and Media Studies, alongside a Post Graduate Diploma in the same fields, and completed the Management Advancement Programme at Wits Business School. His foundational journalism training was achieved through a National Diploma from TUT. This multi-disciplinary education highlights his broad and nuanced understanding of media, law, and management.

Primedia, recognised for pioneering the digital migration of licenced broadcasting and licenced outdoor advertising businesses, has made significant strides in reclaiming advertising revenue previously diverted to global technology giants (FAANGs), channelling it back to South Africa, the continent, and local content creators. This strategic focus positions Primedia as a formidable media powerhouse committed to fostering African narratives and economic empowerment.

In his new role, Monare will work closely with Primedia’s group chief executive and its board, leading stakeholder relationship management and advancing the group’s vision to sustainably reshape the advertising ecosystem. Primedia Group CEO Jonathan Procter expressed enthusiasm about Monare’s appointment, highlighting the invaluable experience and insight he brings to the organisation.

“Mosh is a highly respected media figure in Africa, whose visionary leadership and vast experience will be instrumental as we deepen our relationships with strategic partners across the continent and advancing our commitment to redirecting advertising investment to benefit the media landscape in Africa and content creators,” said Procter.

On his appointment, Monare remarked: “I am honoured to join Primedia at a pivotal moment in its journey to redefine the media landscape across Africa. Leveraging my experience and commitment to principled leadership, I will focus on fostering meaningful partnerships and driving innovative solutions that enhance value for stakeholders, promote content from across our continent , and ensure sustainable growth in a fast evolving market.”

Monare’s transition marks a significant milestone for Primedia, signalling an era of strengthened corporate affairs leadership aligned with the group’s purpose-driven growth and continental impact.
