Christmas trees that cost over R1 million

The holiday season is approaching and nothing feels more like Christmas than an opulent and luxurious Christmas tree – and you can buy a huge one for more than R1 million in South Africa.

The quest to find the most expensive Christmas trees has taken on a whole new level of extravagance as various retailers and e-commerce stores offer an array of luxury trees.

Here’s where you should be looking if you want one that will serve as a dazzling display:

ImportItAll – An artificial tree for a million rand

Leading the pack in the e-commerce segment is ImporItAll with the Dunhill Fir Full Pre-Lit Artificial Green Christmas Tree which stands 12 feet (3.5 metres) tall with an 80 inch (two metre) base diameter. The tree costs R1.256 million and can also be paid in four installments of R314 654 on Payflex.

According to the website, the tree features “hundreds of individually crafted branch tips to create full bodied branches” and is designed to look and feel lifelike”.

It also features 1 500 white lights that are said to remain illuminated even if a bulb goes out. The lights are pre-strung on the tree to simplify the setup process, and it comes with pre-attached hinged branches for easy assembly and quick storage.

Customers should expect to spend 45 to 60 minutes to properly shape the tree by peeling back branches and separating tips.

ImportItAll – R400 000 or nothing

ImportItAll has a range of other cheaper Christmas trees.

At R429 433 is another green Dunhill Fir and the Hykolity 7.5 ft Prelit Artificial Christmas for R332 270.

The former stands 7.5 feet (2.3 metre) tall but has a 59-inch (1.5 metre) base diameter.

For those seeking something expensive yet affordable, Makro is the place to go with the XXL 2.7-meter Christmas Tree for R14 500. While not as tall or advanced like its million-rand counterpart, it is said to be the perfect tree to store many presents underneath for Christmas day.
