Attacks continue in the West Bank’s Nur Shams and safe zones could come under attack – here are the latest updates.

  • Israeli army chief Herzi Halevi said the military would not refrain from operating in areas declared safe zones if “terrorist” activity was detected there.
  • Around 80 bodies of Palestinians killed by the Israeli army were returned to the Gaza Strip through the Karem Abu Salem (Kerem Shalom) border crossing on Tuesday. They were received by the Ministry of Health.
  • The state media office in Gaza said the bodies were handed over “mutilated” and accused Israelis of removing “vital organs” from them.
  • Internet and telecommunications in the Gaza Strip experienced disruptions and outages due to damaged infrastructure. This has also jeopardized the delivery of life-saving assistance by first responders and humanitarian organizations.
  • Palestine’s representative to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, wrote to the president of the UN Security Council that Israel’s attacks on Gaza have only gotten worse in the four days since the adoption of the latest UN resolution to increase aid to Gaza.

Human influence and struggle

  • Between Saturday and Tuesday, 858 Palestinians were killed and 1,598 injured in Gaza, the enclave’s health ministry said.
  • According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, 241 people were killed and 382 injured in the last 24 hours.
  • Yemen’s Houthis’ attacks in the Red Sea increased on Tuesday. The US military said it shot down 12 disposable attack drones, three anti-ship ballistic missiles and two land-attack cruise missiles fired by the group within 10 hours.

  • On Tuesday, UN chief Antonio Guterres announced that Sigrid Kaag would be the lead humanitarian and reconstruction coordinator for Gaza.
  • According to the organization, Kaag will oversee humanitarian aid deliveries to the strip current UN resolution.
  • Cuban President, Miguel Diaz Canel, condemned Israel on Tuesday. “The genocide committed by the terrorist state of Israel in Gaza is a humiliation for all of humanity,” he wrote on X.
  • Israeli Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer reportedly met with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan in Washington, DC. The pair discussed efforts to bring home the remaining prisoners held by Hamas in Gaza, a White House official told Reuters.

Expulsion in Gaza

  • According to the UN agency OCHA, Israel on Tuesday reaffirmed an evacuation order for an area covering around 15 percent of the Deir el-Balah governorate in the central Gaza Strip.
  • Instructions on the map ordered residents of Bureij and Nuseirat refugee camps and north of Nuseirat to move to already overcrowded shelters in Deir el-Balah.
  • The UN Palestinian refugee agency, UNRWA, estimates that 85 percent of Gaza’s population has been internally displaced since the war began on October 7.

Raids in the occupied West Bank

  • Israeli drone strikes in Nur Shams in the occupied West Bank city of Tulkarem reportedly killed six Palestinians. The attacks continued into Wednesday, Al Jazeera’s Alan Fisher reported.
  • Raids also took place overnight in Tulkarem, the Nur Shams refugee camp and the town of Beit Ummar north of Hebron.
  • Among the Palestinians arrested on Tuesday was activist Khalida Jarrar, who supported the organization imprisoned women. This was reported by the independent news organization Jadaliyya held without charge.
  • On Tuesday, Israeli forces killed two Palestinians, including a 17-year-old child, in the Fawwar refugee camp. According to OCHA, two Palestinians were injured.
