IDF: Video shows hostages taken to Al-Shifa hospital

  • IDF video claims Hamas used hospital
  • 240 hostages remain in Hamas custody
  • progress in discussions; Possible release of dozens for a five-day ceasefire

(NewsNation) – The Israel Defense Forces released a video showing Hamas taking hostages to Al-Shifa Hospital during its October 7 invasion. The footage shows two civilians that the IDF says Hamas kidnapped from Israeli territory.

The video circulating online purportedly shows Al-Shifa Hospital amid the chaos of the October 7 attacks, allegedly with hostages surrounded by armed Hamas fighters. According to the IDF, this visual evidence supports its claim that Hamas used the hospital as a base during the attack.

One of the hostages is seen being carried, visibly injured, on a hospital bed while the other is walking.

The IDF identified the hostages as a Nepalese civilian and a Thai civilian.

The release of this video has intensified the ongoing hostage negotiations between the US-led coalition and Hamas.

An estimated 240 hostages remain in Hamas custody.

Israel, the United States and Hamas are nearing an agreement to release dozens of women and children held hostage in Gaza in return for a five-day pause in fighting. The Washington Post reported this on Saturdayciting people familiar with the deal.

According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, more than 11,100 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since October 7.

Deputy National Security Adviser Jonathan Finer announced that significant progress has been made in recent days in narrowing disagreements and reaching agreement on certain issues.

“Some of the issues where there was disagreement have now either been narrowed down or agreement has been reached. But it’s not complete yet,” Finer said.

While Finer expressed optimism, he cautioned that a comprehensive deal has not yet been completed.

Michael Herzog, Israel’s ambassador to the US, said serious efforts were underway and stressed the sensitivity of the negotiations and the need for confidentiality.

“I don’t want to go into the details of these conversations. They are obviously very sensitive. The less detail we go into, the better the chances of such a deal happening, but these are very serious efforts,” Herzog said.

Finer expressed concerns about a possible Israeli operation in the southern Gaza Strip. With thousands of civilians having fled the area under evacuation orders, Finer stressed that military operations should not proceed until all civilians are included in the planning.

When Finer was asked about the possible number of hostages to be released, he stated that it could be “significantly more than twelve,” and in another interview he mentioned “dozens.” However, he declined to comment on whether these were women or children.
