I couldn't sleep at night and here I am writing this post at 4:01 am The reason is that every time I sleep in the afternoon, sleeping at night becomes a problem. I decided to keep watching a show, but no matter what I'm doing, if I'm sleepy, I usually sleep. However, I wasn't sleepy and started to worry because I had to work in the morning.
I decided to eat some cashews to help me sleep as they are said to help you sleep. As I went to get the cashews, the worry lingered in the back of my mind: I needed sleep, but I wasn't sleepy. Then I realized: why do I worry? Worrying doesn't solve anything. It only increases stress. I immediately stopped worrying, drank some water, opened the window for cross ventilation, lay down in bed, and wrote this post.
Sometimes things don't go as planned, especially when we're used to them always going a certain way. It's natural to worry about situations beyond our control, but I've learned to just relax and go with the flow. When I did that, I was able to sleep peacefully.
Look at the situation you're worried about right now: how about taking a walk and enjoying nature? Visit a pastry shop and buy your favorite treat. Go see something fascinating, like a nearby tourist attraction. Do anything positive that makes you happy. There is a saying in Nigeria that goes: “Wahala don't finish, make you try to enjoy life.” which means that problems and worries never end, so you should do everything you can to enjoy life. If not, you will spend all your time worrying.
I hope this serves as a reminder: when worries arise (which is a normal human response to stress or situations we can't fix), remember that you deserve a life free of constant worry. You deserve happiness, even in the midst of stressful times. One thing I learned from my mom is that no matter how urgent a situation seems, she talks and acts like it's no big deal. I used to wonder how he did it. She cares, but she doesn't let the situation take over her peace and I think we should all do the same.
If you can't fix a situation right now, focus on enjoying the moment while you work to find a solution. It takes practice to get into this mindset. I have been practicing it and although I sometimes fail, I focus on my victories. I feel proud when a situation arises and I manage to not have it ruin my day or bother me for more than 10 minutes.
Now, I'm not saying you should run away from problems. I tell you that you must analyze them and find the best way to solve them. If they can't be resolved immediately, take a step back. Do something else, appreciate other aspects of life and trust that everything will work out. Remember, when your breathing stops and your heart stops beating, nothing matters anymore.
This year, let your goals include getting away from stressful situations you can't resolve, preserving your happiness, and focusing on the good things in life while finding solutions. Don't let one stressful moment define your entire day or, worse yet, your entire month. Let's treat our minds and bodies with respect so that our hearts continue to beat with pride.
