US actor Jayme Lawson details what it took to play Malcolm X’s wife, a powerful woman in history

By Chrizelda Kekana

Weruche Opia plays Martin Luther King’s wife, Coretta Scott King, while Jayme Lawson plays Malcolm X’s wife, Dr Betty Shabazz. They were two powerful and prominent figures in the history of America’s liberation struggle.

In an exclusive interview with News24, the Hollywood A-listers took the Lifestyle editor Chrizelda Kekana into their experiences on the set of Genius: MLK/X.

They detail not only how they felt they did justice to portraying two powerful women but also what went into shining a light on women they felt history had actively tried to paint as “just wives and sidekicks to great history makers”.

Whether you’re planning a trip or just stocking up your medicine cabinet, there are a few medications that you should always have on standby, just in case.

For me, I always pack an antihistamine, painkillers and Loperamide when travelling.

The State of SA Wine 2024

By Daléne Fourie

SA Wine’s production is down by 10% from 2022 amid a general 8% decline in the last 5 years, though given the all-round bad news of the previous five years, the results seem relative compared to the world.

While many pre-eminent commentators bemoan the state of agricultural legislation, declining exports, and WOSA’s decidedly rosy outlook on the state of wine affairs, I am tempted to go back to the vineyard to assess the very real evolution of SA wine.

It’s not for us. You know, those of us who grew up with carburettors, cadence braking, and misfiring cylinders. It’s for future generations.

Combining cutting-edge electric technology with the hallmark performance and refinement of the AMG brand, this Mercedes-AMG EQE 43 4Matic sedan represents a new era of driving excellence. And boy, oh boy, does it rocket.

‘Her life’s work will continue forever’: A tribute to SA’s ‘legendary’ culinary icon Fatima Sydow

By Bashiera Parker

In Islam, 40 days after the passing of a loved one, family and friends often gather in prayer. On this occasion, and in the period in between, it is believed the living, by doing good deeds, hopes their rewards will be conveyed unto the deceased who’ve concluded their time on earth.

I connected with Hadjira, Fatima Sydow’s oldest sister, the week after her 40 days.

“Alhamdulillah, it went well,” she tells me as we get to talking about the South African culinary icon.

Text generated by artificial intelligence (AI) such as ChatGPT appeared recently to be met with euphoria by some and fear, anger and bewilderment by others. In The Hitchhiker’s Guide to AI: A Handbook for All (Macmillan), Arthur Goldstuck offers just that – an accessible guide to what AI does and how it could help us all if we know how to use it properly.

At the launch of the book, Goldstuck spoke to veteran journalist and broadcaster John Perlman about the challenges of this new technology. Here is an edited transcript of their conversation.
