Friday’s weather: Fine and warm, but expect thunderstorms in some parts of the country  | News24



It will be cloudy to partly cloudy and cool to warm in most parts of South Africa.

The South African Weather Service issued a warning for severe thunderstorms and disruptive rain in some parts, leading to flooding in localised areas. The rest of the country can expect cloudy to partly cloudy conditions and cool to warm temperatures. 

Impact-based warnings

A Yellow Level 4 warning for severe thunderstorms, leading to flooding of roads, settlements and low-lying areas, resulting in the closure of some bridges and roads. Damage to settlements or structures in overpopulated areas (urban or rural villages) is expected over the interior of the Northern Cape and the western parts of the North West.

A Yellow Level 3 warning for disruptive rain, leading to flooding of roads, low-lying bridges and formal/informal settlements, is expected over the Overberg, the southern Cape Winelands and the coastal areas of the Garden Route in the Western Cape on Saturday and Sunday.

Cloudy and warm conditions are forecast for Gauteng, with isolated showers and thundershowers.

The expected UVB sunburn index is very high.

Mpumalanga will be partly cloudy, with cool to warm temperatures and isolated showers.

There will be scattered showers and thundershowers along the escarpment areas.

Partly cloudy and cool to warm conditions are expected in Limpopo, with isolated showers and thundershowers, except in the north-west of the province.

The North West will experience cloudy and cool to warm conditions, with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the west.

Cloudy and cool conditions, with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers, are expected in the Free State.

There will be widespread showers and thundershowers over the western parts of the province.

The Northern Cape will be cloudy, with warm to hot temperatures and scattered to widespread showers and thundershowers, but partly cloudy in the west, with isolated thundershowers from the afternoon, except along the coast.

The wind along the coast will be light north-westerly, becoming south-westerly in the afternoon.

Cloudy to partly cloudy conditions and warm to hot temperatures are expected along the coast of the Western Cape, with isolated showers and thundershowers in most parts of the province, except in the south-west.

Scattered showers and thundershowers are expected in the extreme north-east of the province.

The wind along the coast will be light and variable along the west coast, becoming south-westerly in the afternoon.

The expected UVB sunburn index is very high.

The western half of the Eastern Cape will be fine and warm, but cool in the north-east.

Isolated showers and thundershowers are expected, but scattered in the north.

The wind along the coast will be light to moderate easterly.

Cloudy and cool to warm conditions, with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated along the coast and adjacent interior, are expected for the eastern half of the province.

The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong north-easterly.

Morning fog over the interior is expected in KwaZulu-Natal, otherwise it will be partly cloudy and warm in the south-west.

Isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers are expected.

The wind along the coast will be moderate easterly to north-easterly, becoming fresh in the afternoon.

The expected UVB sunburn index is moderate.
