Local retail giant Pick n Pay is throwing its weight behind the national cricket team by promising customers a guaranteed full refund on groceries bought on its same-day delivery app, Asap!, should the Proteas win the Cricket World Cup.

The retailer said it would provide cash refunds for all qualifying orders worth R500 or more, made between 30 October and 17 November 2023 should South Africa come out victorious at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, which kicked off last month in India.

To qualify for this potential refund, customers must link their Pick n Pay Smart Shopper cards and register their orders via the Pick n Pay Asap! WhatsApp channel.

There is no limit to the refund guarantee in terms of the number of orders made or how much customers spend.

Pick n Pay retail executive for omnichannel Vincent Viviers said: “Following the triumphant success of the Springboks in the Rugby World Cup, we’re also fully behind our Proteas as they play to secure another World Cup title for South Africa.

“Their performances on the field have been exemplary over the past weeks. When the Proteas win the tournament, our customers will win with them. It is a win-win for South Africans.”

This is not the first initiative run by the retailer in support of a national team. Ahead of the Rugby World Cup final, Pick n Pay offered customers free rugby-themed printing services on T-shirts bought at 12 of its retail stores.

According to Pick n Pay, more than 500 stores will be participating in the Asap! promotion and the opportunity for free groceries is available to South Africans across the country.

Before the start of the Rugby World Cup, Takealot, through its BackTheBucks campaign, also promised customers a full refund on five Samsung TV models if the Springboks won.

Now that the Boks have brought home the coveted trophy, Takealot and Samsung will pay out around R10 million to more than 800 shoppers, marking the second refund on TVs by the e-commerce company following a Rugby World Cup win.
