The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned of severe thunderstorms with damaging winds, hail, excessive lightning, and heavy rain in parts of the North West, Gauteng, Northern Cape and Limpopo.
Damaging waves are expected in parts of the Eastern Cape, Northern Cape and Western Cape.
Impact-based warnings
Yellow level 4 warning for severe thunderstorms leading to strong, damaging winds, hail, excessive lightning and possible heavy downpours leading to flooding and damage to susceptible formal/informal settlements and infrastructure is expected in the North West.
Yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms leading to localised flooding of susceptible roads, low-lying areas and bridges, as well as localised damage to infrastructure and informal settlements are expected in Gauteng, the eastern parts of the Northern Cape and in Limpopo, except in the south-eastern parts.
Yellow level 2 warning for damaging winds and waves leading to disruption of ports/small harbours activities for a short period of time, and difficulty in navigation at sea are expected between Alexander Bay in the Northern Cape and Plettenberg Bay in the Western Cape in the morning.
Yellow level 1 warning for damaging waves leading to localised disruption of port/small harbour activities for a short period of time, and difficulty in navigation at sea, as well as disruption to beachfront activities are expected between Oyster Bay and Algoa Bay in the Eastern Cape in the morning.
