Greenhouse Restaurant & Bar invites you to savor summer in Johannesburg like never before. Imagine long, sun-drenched afternoons filled with laughter, a chilled glass of champagne, and the gentle swaying of rattan pendants over lush greenery. Starting at 12:00 p.m., the patio becomes a sunlit retreat where time slows, conversations flow, and every moment feels elegant and effortless. Whether it's a relaxed lunch with friends, a romantic date or a quiet escape from the pace of the city, The Greenhouse offers five different ways to enjoy the season in style.
1. Embrace the charm of the patio
The patio at Greenhouse Restaurant & Bar is the ultimate summer sanctuary. Black and white tiles shimmer in the sunlight, while rattan pendants hang elegantly over lush cascades of greenery. Curved sofas invite guests to lounge all afternoon, letting time slow down and moments stretch into hours. It is a space designed for relaxation, where the rhythm of summer encourages long, slow conversations and the occasional spontaneous toast to life.
2. Discover the New Lunch Menu
The Greenhouse Restaurant & Bar celebrates its sixth anniversary by offering a new lunch service from Thursday to Saturday, starting at 12:00 p.m. At the forefront of this culinary evolution is Chef Leigh-Anne Knipe, who brings her experience at Restaurant Mosaic, Overture, Ethos and Proud Mary. Knipe's approach combines creativity, depth and accessibility, resulting in accessible yet refined dishes.
“It's important to have variety on the menu, whether it's vegan, vegetarian or meat, so there's something for everyone,” Knipe says. “With our experience at Shortmarket Club, we know how to create great food with a bit of flair, but the atmosphere here is more relaxed and welcoming than fine dining.”

Exclusive summer offerings include succulent grilled chicken thighs with sumac, creamed corn and roasted peaches; delicious lobster macaroni and cheese with Gruyere sauce and toasted crumbs with garlic, rosemary and thyme; Bread with tomato, toasted brioche spread with fresh tomato, olive oil and salt; and for dessert lovers, the Almond and Blueberry Mess, a delicate combination of meringue fragments, almond mousse, blueberry compote and toasted almonds.
“Our goal is to offer the type of food you would expect from a top-notch restaurant, great ingredients, refined technique and beautiful presentation, without the rigidity or formality that normally comes with it,” explains Daniel Rismani, Head of Operations. “You're eating top-quality dishes, but in an environment where you can relax, connect and really enjoy yourself.”

3. Enjoy signature cocktails
Greenhouse Restaurant & Bar transforms any summer afternoon with its carefully crafted cocktails. Long-serve options like the Henny Pot (Hennessy VS, Appletiser, elderflower and lemon) and G Pot (Tanqueray, Blue Curacao, rose tonic and lemon) perfectly complement the relaxed summer vibe. Whether you prefer alcoholic or non-alcoholic options, the drinks encourage relaxation and laughter, effortlessly extending your summer afternoons into the wee hours of the evening.

4. Experience the magic within
The interior of Greenhouse Restaurant & Bar reflects the charm of its patio, providing a lush and whimsical escape. The luxurious booths are surrounded by abundant foliage, while delicate butterfly motifs flutter through the space, creating an enchanting atmosphere. Whether enjoying a leisurely lunch or preparing for evening entertainment, the interior ensures every moment feels luxurious and memorable.
During the day, the restaurant offers a variety of experiences, from girls' outings to elegant business lunches or romantic dates. Each visit is designed to be unhurried, allowing guests to soak in the summer atmosphere.

5. Extend your afternoon into the evening
The Greenhouse Restaurant & Bar doesn't end when the sun sets. At night, the 180-seat venue becomes Johannesburg's first true supper club. Guests can choose the VIP Butterfly Booth or a plush green velvet-lined seat next to the bar, enjoying the touch of champagne while DJs spin deep house, hip-hop and uplifting beats. This seamless transition from day to night ensures that the summer energy continues long after lunch.
“Everyone knows Greenhouse is a beautiful space, but most people still see it as a popular nightlife destination. They don't think of it as a place to go for an afternoon drink, a date or a really good meal. What we're trying to do now is change that perception, to show that it's not just about the night scene, but the whole experience,” says Luke Dakers, founder of the Monseca Group.
“The Greenhouse has long been famous for its nights, but now it offers an experience that doesn't have to wait until sunset. It's the same energy, just a slower pace, a place to come to for lunch and stay as the afternoon progresses.”
Therefore, the Greenhouse Restaurant & Bar offers a full range of summer experiences. From the sunlit courtyard to the whimsical interiors, from innovative lunches to signature cocktails and evening entertainment, it is a destination that captures the social energy of Johannesburg with elegance and charm. Whether you visit for a relaxed lunch, a sun-kissed afternoon drink or an evening of music and celebration, The Greenhouse ensures that every moment of summer is elevated and memorable.
