A collaboration of culinary creators

Summer is charged to life by a team with an exceptional understanding of hospitality. Heinz Rynners of Boulder Group, along with Ben Stanger and Luke Dakers from Monseca Hospitality Group, in association with Sab and Corona, imagined a place where every detail of the experience, food, drinks, music and design come together to create moments that are worth remembering. It is a space that invites guests to relax, remain and lose the notion of time in the most charming way.

Relaxed afternoons for night energy

Every night, when the sun sets under the Johannesburg horizon, a soft bell resonates through sunset. It is more than a simple signal. It is a small moment of theater, a subtle invitation to the transition from the calm of the day to the emotion of the night.

From Monday to Wednesday, the rhythm is relaxed with long lunches, mezcal tastings and easy work that foster conversation and relaxed. From Thursday to Sunday, the atmosphere is transformed as the DJs fill the space with r'n'b, hip hop, Afrohouse and Amapiano. The place comes alive, and the night feels full of possibilities, energy and celebration.

“It is a space that transforms with you,” says Dakers. “You can facilitate it or get ready to celebrate.”

A space that lives and breathes crown

OCCASCO occupies the old short film space, bringing its own distinctive charm to Oxford Parks, an enclosure already held by Premium restaurants, vibrant bars and cured events. However, sunset is more than a destination for exceptional food and carefully elaborate cocktails. It also serves as the crown home in South Africa, organizing launches of products, collaborations and activations that embody the spirit of the golden hour of the brand every day.

“This is not just a high performance output,” says Stanger. “It is the spiritual home of the brand; a place where Corona can appear completely, every day.”

A party that tells a story

The menu is pure joy for anyone who loves Mexican food with a South African touch. Think of creamy that the Guacamole made the plateau with a squeeze of fresh lime and a kick from Chile. Mini Tacos boards where you can mix and combine the fillings of slow stew beef to the tuna simply chamuscado. Crispy empanadas stuffed with pulled chicken. Corn ribs with smoked paprika. Wagyu hamburgers. Generated shared dishes of steak, chicken, wings and lamb chops.

And dessert. Fried gold churros sprinkled with cinnamon sugar and sprayed with chocolate or the indulgent foster bananas. The guy of sweet ending that makes you stay a little more.

“We love food,” says Dakers. “We have tried all the Mexican places in Joburg and Cabo City, and we inspire ourselves everywhere: street food, trips, even Tiktok. It is about doing something that is comforting and exciting to see when it lands on your table.”

Drinks receive so much attention with a list of tequila and mezcal that is classic and creative. Try the sunny flower with gin tank, passion fruit, coconut, lime and ginger beer. The brave sun with the white jimador, the hot honey and the juice of Lima. Or the Berry Basil Coronita, a playful mixture of the rested jimador, Berry Basil cordial and a mini crown.

Design that feels like a vacation

Bourne Kreative, based in Johannesburg, designed sunset from scratch to reflect the world of crown. The woven woven bar shines with warm light, oceanic blue floors bring a coastal calm and lanterns with large accounts made by local artisans balancing gently above. The low leather sidewalks, the communal tables and a discreet stand VIP give you spaces to connect, celebrate or simply soak up the atmosphere.

Schmidt says: “The whole room was designed to feel transported. It is urban, yes, but at the time you enter, you feel that you are completely completely. With sunset, the space is the brand.”

Eating has organized carefully to offer intimacy and union. Low leather sidewalks encourage relaxed chats, round communal tables inspire shared experiences and a hidden vip cabin offers a private corner for special moments. The large bohemian account flashlights hang from the plaster roofs in layers, throwing playful shadows that dance as the night deepens. The ocean blue floor, a custom color created exclusively for sunset, combined with textured walls and macramé cushions, gives space a rich and tactile depth. The lighting of warm tones subtly changes throughout the night, moving with the mood and energy of the room.

Almost all the details have been carefully designed. The hand -sewn leather, the curved plaster and the personalized finishes show the attention and art behind the space. Sustainability and local crafts were at the forefront of the design, from lanterns with handwashers by local artisans to fabric elements of manufacturers of specialized manufacturers, with most of the materials produced here in South Africa. Each corner tells a story of creativity, care and authenticity.

With time for summer, sunset will present a roof terrace, which offers an escape inspired by the beach in the heart of the city. Guests can soak on the horizon, feel the soft breeze and enjoy a new perspective on the moments of the golden hour that define the place.

With its concept driven by mood, reflexive design and layers in layers, sunset is redefining the idea of a flagship.
