I remember traveling to Belfast to meet my friend.
Somehow Belfast has become one of those places where my friend and I meet from time to time. I think I love the way Belfast is. It feels like neutral ground for both of us because she's in Ireland and I'm in Scotland, so meeting up in Belfast is easy. For us it's kind of a middle ground and, most of the time, it's also cheaper.
The first time I went to meet her there, I checked the flight prices and the truth is that everything was very positive. The ticket was affordable, the timing was good for me and I felt like yes, the trip was going to be smooth.
Now, one thing about me is that I am a very light traveler. I always do my best to travel light. I don't like packing too many things. I prefer to select pieces that can be worn in different ways, clothes that can be repeated, shoes that can complement multiple outfits, and pieces that I know I will actually wear.
When I fly, I prefer not to carry too much luggage, as I am constantly trying to avoid stress. If I'm going somewhere for a short visit, one or two dresses will be fine for me, depending on what I'm doing there.
My friend, on the other hand, is different. She travels a little heavily. He likes to pack sneakers, jeans, shirts, hoodies and all those “what if” items. What happens if it rains? What if we go out? What if I need this? What if I need that? And honestly, I get it.
So when he checked the luggage space the airline gave him as a carry-on, it was something he struggled with a lot.
For me I carried a handbag with everything I needed inside. Was it the best? No. Was it comfortable? Not precisely. It was a big bag, and yes, it fit under the seat, but carrying it around the airport and hanging it on your shoulder for hours was not comfortable at all.
Would you prefer a backpack? Maybe. But even a backpack can start to hurt your shoulder and back after a long time. In my medical student days, I traveled through Istanbul and let me tell you, the transit at the Turkish airport was long. My back was not happy with me after carrying that bag for hours.
Now here's the thing. I had a small box at home that I could have used when traveling to Belfast, but it didn't fit the size of the plane cabin. You know those affordable flights like easyJet, Ryanair, Loganair, Wizz Air, Jet2, TUI, British Airways, Aer Lingus, KLM, Lufthansa, Air France and the rest? Some of them give you a small free carry-on baggage allowance, but if you want extra baggage, you will have to pay for it separately.
And sometimes that's where the “cheap flight” starts to stop being so cheap.
For a long time I wanted to get a cab box that actually fit. I needed a box that I could carry through the airport, something light, something easy, and something that wouldn't strain my shoulders and back before I even reached my destination.
The problem is that when you log in, you see different sizes. Small, medium, large, cabin size, under seat size and sometimes you wonder, “Okay, but will this one really fit?”
Because not everyone understands the measurements. Some people see 45 x 36 x 20 cm and still can't imagine what it means. Sometimes I am one of those people. Tell me clearly: will it fit under the seat or not?
That's something I liked flight knight.
I collaborated with the brand Flight Knight and the box I bought is called BUBBLE Carry-On Cabin Case in cream color. First of all, the color is beautiful. You know me, I love pretty colors. Most of my boxes have always been black, gray or just very plain, so this time I wanted something different.
I know cream tanning can make you think, “Will it get dirty easily?” I asked myself the same thing. But sometimes you just have to choose what you really like. I've spent too much time choosing safe colors because I'm worried about stains, so this time I said, let me enjoy a pretty box.
The BUBBLE Cabin Case has this bubble design on the outside and looks stylish without doing too much. It is made of a durable ABS hard shell, which simply means that it is made of a strong, lightweight material that can withstand daily travel better than a soft bag. So, it feels strong, but not too heavy.
The weight is about 2.55 kg and the capacity is 25 liters, which is honestly enough for someone like me who doesn't pack too much.
The size is 45cm high x 36cm wide x 20cm deep, including wheels. Without the wheels it measures 37cm high x 35cm wide x 20cm deep. The main thing is that this size meets easyJet's free carry-on requirement, so it fits under the seat in easyJet flights as free carry-on baggage. Flight Knight also says it supports over 100 airlines worldwide, but as always, check with your airline before traveling as airlines can be very particular.
One thing to note is that some reviews mentioned that Ryanair may not accept it as a free under-seat bag, so keep that in mind. Ryanair can be very strict about luggage, and if you've used them before you probably already know how it can be.
The suitcase also comes with a TSA Approved Combination Lockthat closes the zippers and provides greater peace of mind. In simple words, it means that your suitcase already has a built-in lock and airport security can check it when necessary without breaking the lock. I haven't even traveled with it properly yet, but I'm already excited to use that piece.
Inside it has lined compartments, security straps and multipurpose pockets. I like that because you can keep things organized. You can separate shoes, cosmetics, underwear, chargers or anything you don't want mixed with your clothes.
It also has a 3-step telescopic handle, so you can adjust the height with a button. The handle is comfortable to hold and the wheels turn smoothly. This feature is important to me because before there were boxes that did not roll freely. I was literally dragging my box. If you're dragging the box, what's the point of it having wheels?
This one rolls easily and that alone makes traveling less stressful.
I also like that Flight Knight offers a 1 year warranty and if check the suitcaseThey extend it to 5 years. For a box that costs £49.99, I think that's a good thing.
Now, let's talk about comfort when traveling.
Comfort is key for me. From my clothes to my hair to my face to my shoes to my luggage, I don't like anything that makes travel more complicated than it already is. I don't even like a lot of makeup when I travel. I prefer something light on the face because airports can be stressful enough.
Flights are cancelled. Flights are delayed. Sometimes you lose a connection. Sometimes you get stuck in an airport longer than expected. Imagine wearing heels, carrying a heavy bag, no extra shoes, no comfort, and no plan. That's why I always say that practicality is better than just looking fashionable when you travel.
You can still look good, but please be comfortable.
And this takes me to those early mornings cheap flights.
You know when you see a flight for a very low price, but the flight leaves at 6 in the morning? At first you feel like you've won. You're thinking, “Yeah, I've got a bargain.” But then you remember that you have to wake up around 3 or 4 in the morning, get ready, get to the airport, go through security and sit there half asleep.
Then you buy coffee. Then I have breakfast. Maybe a sandwich. Maybe a hot chocolate. Before you know it, you'll have spent £15 or £20 at the airport. And the flight you refused to book because it was £20 more but at a better time suddenly starts to seem like the better option.
I saw a joke about this on Instagram and honestly, it's true.
Morning flights can be cheaper for different reasons. Airlines want to start moving planes early so they can fit more flights during the day. Early flights may also be less affected by delays because the plane has not yet gone through a full day of potential disruptions. There may also be less demand from people who don't want to get up so early, so prices can sometimes be lower.
But in my case, I have reached a stage where, if I can afford a more comfortable time, I will choose it. I don't always want to travel tired and anxious. If I need to take an early flight to a conference, seminar or something important, I will do it. But if I'm just going to see a friend or enjoy a short trip, I prefer flights around 11, 12 or 1.
I want to wake up peacefully, bathe, get dressed and travel without feeling like I'm running away from the people in my town.
One thing I wish brands would do is make removable wheels. Imagine if you could remove the tires to fit the gauge. But then again, you might lose a wheel while running out the door, so maybe the current design is safer.
Overall, I think the Flight Knight BUBBLE Cabin Case is a beautiful travel case, especially if you like to travel light like I do. It offers more space than a handbag, rolls up smoothly, looks good, and keeps your shoulder from having to work too hard.
I also recently used it to pack some items I needed for product reviews, so it's not just useful for flights. It can also be useful for everyday life, road trips, short stays, and moving things without stress.
Now I finally have a cab box that I can use without worrying too much about whether it fits.
Just a quick note for my fellow travelers: a couple of reviews mentioned that while this box is wonderful for easyJet and other flights, Ryanair may be a little stricter and may not allow this specific size as a free under-seat bag. So keep that in mind if you are a frequent Ryanair flyer.
Have you ever had problems with luggage at the airport? Have you had to pay extra because your bag didn't fit? Have you traveled with a bag or backpack and regretted it because your shoulder and back were crying?
I would love to read your experience because airport luggage stories are always something more.
